Sixth Annual MK Cycle Pub Crawl

E-mail Print PDF

Saturday 26th February, 2011.

As shocking as it may seem this is the sixth opportunity for you to cycle round some of Milton Keynes' cycle paths and leisure routes taking in some of the sites the city has to offer as well as sampling some beer from a fine and varied selection of pubs.

Route and Timings

We meet at the Queen Victoria in Bradwell Village at 10:30 for Bacon Butties (and a small beer) before commencing this years route at 11:15. I have decided to choose the same route this year as it was popular last year and I've made sure the Dons are playing away so we won't have to make any Ad Hoc detours to avoid away fans. The timings are:

  • 10:30 – The Victoria Inn, Bradwell Village. Depart 11:15

  • 11:30 – Wetherspoons, CMK. Depart 12:00

  • 12:25 – Ye Olde Swan, Woughton on the Green. Depart 12:55

  • 13:05 – The Plough, Simpson. Depart 13:35

  • 13:45 – The Red Lion, Fenny Lock. Depart 14:15

  • 14:45 – The Barge Inn, Woolstones. Depart 15:15

  • 15:45 – The Secklow Hundred, CMK. Depart....at some point

Unfortunately the Dons have taken no notice of our schedule and have arranged a home fixture against Brighton on the same day which may mean some last minute changes of plan if the away fans discover the Red Lion.

The intention is to spend 30 minutes in each hostelry and the timings are fairly realistic so that a little more faff time is allowed for, or if you don't faff it means more time in the pub! I've based my timings on a comfortable cycling speed of 8 miles an hour which should be easy to maintain even if you are not a regular cyclist.

Once again if you are not a cyclist but would like to meet us somewhere simply turn up at the times shown and enjoy a beer at the local boozer. An all day bus ticket available for £3.50 from the driver on any Arriva operated service will cover you for the No.3 to Bradwell and the No.18 for the route outside CMK. See the MK Star website for timetables.

If you wish to partake of Breakfast at the VIC please let us know a.s.a.p.

Rules, Regulations and other stuff:

It is advisable that no more than a half pint of lower strength beer is consumed at the stops; try to have a soft drink at one or two locations. It is still an offence to be over the legal alcohol limit whilst in charge of a vehicle (yes, a push-bike is considered a vehicle) even on Redways and other marked cycle ways.

You are responsible for the mechanical condition of your own Cycle. The organiser will not be able to provide mechanical backup/cover for any participant.

You are responsible for your own health, fitness and ability. Whilst the pace will be easy and the route relatively un-taxing, the organiser is not responsible for any injury or illness occurring during or after the ride.
