The Event:

To help celebrate/promote national pubs week in MK, the local CAMRA branch have planned  a pub crawl around Milton Keynes. We will be visiting 6 local pubs, including a current GBG pub, two previous entries and a future candidate as well as two pubs not normally frequented. One of the beauties of Milton Keynes is its extensive and easily accessible network of Redways and cycle routes that links together modern developments, sleepy villages, shops and most importantly (to this venture) a fine array of pubs to suit many tastes. To promote both aspects this crawl will take place on cycles.

Route and timings:

See the map for the complete route but the basic plan is to meet at the Ship Ashore in Willen at 11:30 for an 11:45 departure and then follow the Northern section of the MK Millennium Cycle Route (National Cycle Network Routes 6 and 51) in an Anticlockwise direction visiting the Nags Head, Linford (12:00AM), The New Inn, New Bradwell (12:45), The Victoria Inn, Bradwell Village (13:35), Wetherspoons, CMK (14:30), The Barge, Woolstone (15:20) and finishing back at the Ship Ashore (16:30).

It is intended to ‘rest’ at each pub for 30 minutes. This will of course including getting on and off your bike. All the timings are approximate but we will try to stick to the schedule wherever possible.

The route of approximately 10 miles is generally flat, following canals, converted railway lines, rivers and is generally all off road. The only bit of road that may need to be negotiated is along NCN route 51 through the City Centre. From Loughton to the city centre is the only real uphill bit; it’s all plain sailing after that. Some of the notable sights along the way are Linford Manor, the Grand Union Canal, Bradwell Windmill, Loughton Valley Park, the City Centre and of course the obligatory MK sight, the Concrete Cows.

Of course if you’re not a cyclist it’s possible to meet us at any or all of these pubs and join in the celebration of the local ‘boozer’.

Rules and Regulations:

It is advisable that no more than a half pint of lower strength beer is consumed at the stops; try to have a soft drink at one or two locations. It is still an offence to be over the legal alcohol limit whilst in charge of a vehicle (yes a pushbike is considered a vehicle) even on Redways and other marked cycle ways.

You are responsible for the mechanical condition of your own Cycle. The organiser will not be able to provide mechanical backup/cover for any participant.

You are responsible for your own health, fitness and ability. Whilst the pace will be easy and the route relatively un-taxing, the organiser is not responsible for any injury or illness occurring during or after the ride.
